Welcome to Tamar Valley Health
Our aim is to provide friendly and professional
healthcare to our patients and local visitors.
This practice serves over 16,400 patients in a mainly
rural part of south-east
Cornwall. The practice operates from two large
purpose-built health centres in
the villages of Callington and Gunnislake. It is fully
computerised with the
Vision GP computer system, has the RCGP Quality Practice
Award charter mark, and has achieved full marks in the
clinical domain of the Quality and Outcomes
Framework (QOF). The practice has an active League of
Friends which is run by patients.
The practice has 12 partners (11 GPs and a strategic
management partner) and currently employs over 50 staff,
who work in teams (nursing, information management,
dispensing and reception), under the direction of team
leaders. There is a wide range of services for patients,
offered by the practice team and by the staff of the
local NHS trusts. There are dispensaries at each health
centre, dispensing to all patients living more than a
mile from a pharmacy, and a full range of nursing
services, provided by practice
nurses, phlebotomists and health care assistants.
Disabled access and facilities are
available at both health centres, including automatic
doors, disabled toilet facilities, height-adjustable
examination couches and hearing loops. If you require
additional assistance from a member of staff, please
ask, and also please let us know if we are not meeting
your needs in this area.
The practice does not currently undertake the training
of general practitioners due to lack of space, but
assists with training medical students. Patients will be
advised when students are at their Health Centre, and
given the opportunity to ask for them not to be present
during their consultations.
